See you with my eyes closed, haunted by your afterglow.

Everything Is Such a Blur

“Little Miss Obsessive“
performed by Ashlee Simpson (feat. Tom Higgenson)

Am I the reason why you tossed and turned last night?
Everything was such a blur, it didn’t come out right
All of a sudden it’s cold and we’re falling apart
No, this can’t be, please don’t leave me alone in the dark

And I guess we’re really over, but come over — I’m not over it
And I guess we’re really over, so come over — I’m not over it
Late night, you make me feel like I’m desperate
I’m not desperate
A little bit possessive, little miss obsessive can’t get over it

I never been a fan of long goodbyes
I’m at the finish line and you’re just way too far behind
In the morning, I got in the fight with myself
I got the bruises to prove it
Then I swallowed your words and spit them right back out

It’s like a fairy tale without a happy ending
But then again, maybe we are just pretending
Why does it have to be so unfair?
Tell me that you care

I really like this song. The music is awesome, the lyrics are pretty solid, and the guest vocal talent of Tom Higgenson from the Plain White T’s sure doesn’t hurt. I’ve always secretly loved “Ashlee Simpson’s” music and hated her vocals. I especially like an instrumental version of “Pieces of Me.” I’ve heard pretty mixed reactions to the song; I’m curious… what do you honestly think?

There's only one response so far for this post:

  1. I think if I ever hear the word “over” again…I’d snap lol.

But seriously. Her verse vocals took a bit to grow on me…I hated the at first, but by the time we got to the second verse, I actually found some charm in them. The chorus was nice…kind of cool to bring back a nice solid “breaking” chorus.

My main complaint is her “swinging vocals”…they just kind of swing around…I don’t think they fit the song…they sound like demo vocals or something, imo. In the way they flow– not vocal quality.

I think it will take me a while to “understand” this song musically. The lyrics are decent, especially considering what I’ve heard of her old stuff– I don’t mean that in a bad way, it’s definitely showing growth!

    - and by “swinging vocals” I mean like– “in the moornniiiiiiing I got in a fiiiiiight with myself”…she seems to emphasize things in places that don’t make sense to me, and a bit too often at that, imo.

It’s got potential. And just for you, I’ll keep listening, because I really think that once I “understand” the song I’ll like it more. The ending KICKS btw…if the entire song had that kind of natural flow it would be a winner!
